Recently, Moon Nguany, Southern Maine’s Regional Coordinator participated in a SAMHSA KSOC-TV webisode entitled: Diverting to Treatment: Community Policing and Supporting Youth with Mental Health Needs.

This webisode will explore the changing role of law enforcement in addressing youth and young adults with mental illness. As a follow-up to the 2016 Awareness Day panel on juvenile justice, the program will provide a deeper look at evidence-based strategies such as crisis intervention training (CIT) to support collaborative efforts among law enforcement, mental health professionals and communities to divert to treatment in lieu of arrest.

Moon discussed the various ways that youth can be involved in the processes that impact themselves. Moon also discussed our Youth Advisory Council and other programs that give youth voice in decisions that impact them.
